Examinations

You can register at the Volkshochschule (VHS) Lahr for both the Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer (DTZ) (the official German language test for immigrants) and the Test “Leben in Deutschland” ('Life in Germany') naturalisation test.
New: we now also offer the telc Deutsch B1-B2 Beruf examination!

Passing this examination (see: https://www.telc.net/en/candidates/language-examinations/tests/detail/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-a2-b1.html) demonstrates that you have a solid basic knowledge of the language at level A2-B1, along with the language skills to deal with all important everyday situations.

The DTZ is the language certificate for naturalisation.

You must register in person at the VHS Lahr! Bring your passport/proof of identity with you!

'Life in Germany' naturalisation test

Passing the naturalisation test proves that you know the legal and social system and living conditions in Germany. In the examination you will be given a test paper containing 33 questions, which you will be given 60 minutes to answer. For each question you must select the correct answer from four possible answers.

telc Deutsch B1-B2 Beruf tests German language competence at the level of independent language use. telc Deutsch B1·B2 Beruf is a dual-level examination. It provides a differentiated evaluation of your communicative competence in the skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. You will be told precisely in which areas you achieved level B1 or B2. The examination comprises a written and an oral part. The written examination takes approximately two hours. You will have 20 minutes' preparation time prior to the oral examination. The oral examination takes place in pairs.

Cancellation policy

If you decide to cancel your examination, you must always do so in writing, and there will be a charge involved. If you cancel the examination prior to the registration deadline, an administration fee of 20.00 euro will be charged. You may cancel your examination after the registration deadline only for reasons beyond your control and by providing evidence (a doctor's certificate, for example), up to the day of the written examination or at the latest on the next working day. Your examination fee, minus an administrative fee of 40.00 euro, will be refunded to you only if such evidence is submitted on time, and is accepted by telc GmbH.
