112 is the Europe-wide emergency number
The single emergency number 112 works across the whole of Europe, as well as in Germany! This 'Euro emergency line’ can save lives, during your normal routine or when you’re on holiday. Anyone in a member state of the European Union can call the 112 emergency number free of charge, and be assured that the fire and rescue services will be alerted immediately and respond as quickly as possible. What’s more, you can also call this number in Turkey, Switzerland, Serbia, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Liechtenstein, Norway, Andorra, Monaco and San Marino.
Emergency service calls for people with a hearing + speech impediment
The Ortenau Integrated Emergency Services Control Centre has a special fax machine to handle emergency calls. The device accepts and handles calls to the 112 emergency number via telefax.
