The city of Lahr is located at the intersection of the Rhine plains and the Schutter valley. Lahr and its surroundings are home to a population of about 100,000. Lahr thus does justice to its claim of being the mid-point of the southern Ortenau region. The following pages provide information about, among other things, road and rail connections, public transport, various aspects to the environment, partner cities and cross-border cooperation.
The ease with which the inner city can be reached, whether by bus or in a car, is one of the strengths of the city. Those choosing to use public transport can get around quickly and comfortably with the Lahrbus System.
There is parking around the pedestrian zone, as well as large capacity multi-storey car parks. There is a parking flyer that provides practical tips for relaxed parking.
The variety in the natural landscape characterizes the special position of the city. From the plain of the Rhine valley with multifarious agricultural use, to the Schuttertal, a typical valley in the Black Forest’s pre-mountainous zone, you can enjoy an intact natural environment in Lahr. In the Environment section, there is interesting information available on the protected landscape areas in Lahr and its surroundings as well as practical notes on the subjects of energy and waste.
