Stork Tower
Remains of a castle (“Tiefburg”) of the Lords of Geroldseck, built around 1220, which, as the crystallization core of the settlement, since 1278 a city, became Lahr. After devastations in the 17th and 18th centuries the castle was acquired in the second half of the 18th century and torn down. The Stork Tower itself served until 1862 as a prison (the signature of a warden carved over the entrance to the tower). At the outer wall there are still numerous stonecutter’s marks, which can be seen on the boss cuboid. On the former Palas (residential building) of the castle the windows still point toward the north and east walls.
In the interior of the Stork Tower tablets provide information about the Geroldsecks, the history of the construction of the castle, and the development of the city.
