Tourism in Lahr
Lahr, a town of 43.315 inhabitants, lies in one of the most beautiful regions of Baden-Württemberg. Embraced by colorful vineyards, the attractive Rhine plain and the varied landscape of the pre-highland zone of the Black Forest, the culture and shopping town of Lahr offers unlimited opportunities for leisure and relaxation.
Lahr has much to offer to young and old – whether during a stroll through the historic pedestrian zone of the town centre, during a walk through the unique Municipal Park, or during extended hikes to viewpoints such as the Schutterlindenberg or the ruined castle of Geroldseck.
During autumn, at the end of October and beginning of November every year, when everything threatens to sink into grey, the medieval town blossoms with a splendid play of colours from a thousand artfully arranged chrysanthemums.
There is much to discover in Lahr for gourmets and sport and culture enthusiasts. Restaurants invite you to get to know the good regional cuisine and the equally good wines from the Breisgau region and the municipal vineyards. Sporting facilities range from solo training on lonely forest tracks to sports at one of the many clubs, right up to a round on the well-maintained 18-hole golf park at Lahr-Reichenbach. Lahr’s cultural life is enriched by the well-known theater groups, renowned orchestras, music ensembles and soloists that visit the town each year, and museums, exhibitions and festivals add further highlights.
Located close to international borders, and sitting in an ideal part of the Upper Rhine region, Lahr is the perfect starting point for trips to the Black Forest, Switzerland, and Alsace. Its proximity to nature and the attraction of the nearby theme park “Europa-Park Rust” are particularly valued by visiting families.
