Rose garden in the Municipal Park
A special park
The Municipal Park in Lahr is an extraordinary garden with magnificent trees, rare plants and the rose garden, which is well-known across the region. Originally, this park was the private garden belonging to a citizen of Lahr, Christian Wilhelm Jamm, who, upon his death in the year 1875, bequeathed it to the city.

Since that time, the grounds have been continuously expanded, and carefully enriched with a large number of different garden styles of a high horticultural level. Today, the park, covering an area of 4.5 hectares, provides the fun of a park for the entire family. The heart of the park is the Rose Garden. It was made in 1985, a structure geometrically divided by a box-tree hedge with more than 250 different types of roses. The boundary is formed by a large collection of old trees with numerous rarities. Expansive rhododendron plantations are as much a part of it as are beds of herbaceous perennials laid out in English style.
In summer, when the peacocks strut across the lawns, the many palms, the Mediterranean flora of the Mediterranean terrace and the cactus garden give the Municipal Park a certain Southern European flair. In addition, plantings that change annually, with thousands of tulips in the spring, summer flowers, carpet-beds, tended meticulously and painstakingly, and magnificent dahlias in the fall ensure that there is a garden show right round the year.
The numerous animals have also always been a popular attraction of the Municipal Park. Children, in particular, enjoy the monkeys, dwarf goats, deer, ponies and other animals. The playground of the Municipal Park provides plenty of variety and children can have a lot of fun in it.
